Computer-aided teaching programmes (CAL) are increasingly being used in health and oral health care as well. So far, however, the combinations of computer-aided recall (CAL) programmes and evidence-based instruction in stomatology have not been described. It was the goal to assess the acceptability and usability of a cohesive approach in conjunction with evidence-based course. In the didactical approach of the EbM modules, a group of 32 EbM tasks are embedded in a case-oriented, problem-oriented manner, which can be carried out in an interactive and self-determined way in an inter-disciplinary contexts with focused patient-focused groups of different ailments.
This survey was carried out at the Faculty of Dentistry of the Johann Wolfgang University of Frankfurt am Main. Acceptability and usability metrics were gathered from three successive consortia of 114 dentistry undergraduates who attended their first term in hospital. In the first part, general information about the users was discussed. In the second part, 43 special instructions were given on the commencement of the programme.
The majority of practitioners (90.1%) felt that evidence-based stomatology was important for their education. Graduates of the programme were awarded marks from Germany, with an overall grade of 2.26 (SD = 0.64). The majority of undergraduates ('88.6%) found the programme useful for their medical education in the care of people. Most of the participants gave the programme with dentists' stickers and teaching materials for evidence-based medical science a favourable evaluation.
Undergraduates welcome the fact that EbM content is part of their dentistry degree.
